Homemade Reusable Makeup Wipes
Love the convenience of makeup wipes but feel guilty about all that packaging? Or simply trying to move away from commercial products and avoid nasty chemicals?
Give your skin a break and go easy on mother earth by making your own gentle reusable face wipes with all natural ingredients and your favorite fragrances.
In order to make this dreamy makeup remover, you’ll need a few basic ingredients, many of which can be substituted depending on your personal preferences.
Natural personal care products deteriorate faster than regular store-bought products which contain preservatives to make them last longer, so it’s best to start with a small batch and see how you go from there. We suggest you start with 7-10 wipes which should last you a week depending on how often you use them.
The soothing combination of coconut, lavender and rosemary oil with their antioxidant, antimicrobial and antiseptic properties help to naturally preserve this mix while nourishing your skin.
What You’ll Need
- ¾ cup rosewater (or distilled water)
- 1 tablespoon cold-pressed unrefined coconut oil (at room temperature)
- 1 tablespoon castile soap
- 5 drops lavender oil
- 2 drops rosemary oil
- A glass jar for storage
- 7-10 facecloths, washable makeup remover pads or washable nursing pads (preferably in a dark color)
- An extra glass jar for mixing
Instructions
- Before you get started, make sure your glass storage jar is squeaky clean. This will help extend the shelf life of your makeup remover by ensuring there is no lingering bacteria.
- Stack the facecloths or makeup remover pads neatly in your clean and dry storage jar. You may need to fold the facecloths depending on the size. You want to be able to remove them easily one at a time.
- To make the makeup remover, first, measure out the coconut oil and add it to the spare jar. If it’s still solid, you’ll need to gently heat it. You can pop it in the microwave for 20 seconds at a time or heat in a double boiler.
- Measure and add the rest of the ingredients to the mixing jar.
- Close the jar well and give a good shake to thoroughly mix all the ingredients.
- Open and give it a good whiff. Add additional essential oil as you see fit.
- Carefully pour the mix into the storage jar, submerging the facecloths or makeup remover pads.
